The Kingfisher is conveniently located  on The Thames Footpath at the head of Wharf Road in Shillingford  South Oxfordshire and only a short walk from The River Thames.  The village is surrounded by open countryside which offer some great walks, particularly the one to Wittenham Clumps.  Warborough our sister village, offers a 17th Century Church St Laurence , village shop, many period houses and also a large public green with cricket pitch and pavilion. There is also The Six Bells Public House ( aka The Black Swan ) which has been featured in the TV programmes Two Fat Ladies & Midsomer Murders.  Of interest is that South Oxfordshire District Council is currently working on a Midsomer Murders Tourist Trail...those familiar with the show will recognise parts of Wallingford.  Another short walk away is Dorchester Abbey this is where The English Music Festival is held, you can explore The Dyke Hills near the river at Days Lock.  Above this area is the Wittenham Nature Reserve, a large woodland area, if your brave enough to climb the clumps there are panoramic views towards Oxford and The Berkshire Downs.  Our closest Town is Wallingford approximately 3 miles away, its market place hosts many events. There are several banks, pharmacies and a supermarket, as well as antiques shops namely Summers Davis and The Lamb Acade.  Also of interest is the local market, held every Friday, and The Farmers held on the third Tuesday of the month. For those interested in local history Wallingford has ruins of a Castle built on the orders of William the Conqueror in 1067, the Castle gardens are open to the public and well worth a visit.  The town also has a small museum located next to the public library opposite the Bullcroft.

If you intend to explore Oxford then it is only a short drive away or if you wish to use public transport there is a regular bus service into the city centre. For those having a special treat the internationally famous Le Manoir Aux Quat Saisons  is only a short distance away, approximately 7.5 miles.

You can find us on the A4074 road which is between Oxford and Reading, we are approximately 10 miles from the M40 at Watlington ( J6 ).

Access by bus service ( 105 / 106 ) direct to Shillingford from Oxford operating daily throughout the day/night. Our nearest large train station is Didcot Parkway which is approx 7 miles, there is a Taxi rank outside the station, though Oxford Train Station is also accessible via the bus service listed above, the pick up point is H5 on St Aldates.  We have listed some links to local attractions within easy reach of us here.
